Studio Vegt is a performance and theatre collective founded by sisters Lieke and Anne van der Vegt. Based in Zwolle, the Netherlands, they create transdisciplinary reality theatre in public space.

Moving between opera, performance, documentary and visual art, Studio Vegt creates work that is experimental in form, but always rooted in the real world. They are interested in what happens when theatre leaves the theatre: when the city becomes the stage, passers-by become part of the story, and everyday reality is turned into something strange, poetic or theatrical.

Their work explores how we relate to one another in an increasingly fragmented society. They look for the stories, encounters and tensions that often remain unseen — and create performances that invite audiences to look again, listen differently and become part of what is happening.

Both sisters graduated from Toneelacademie Maastricht: Lieke in Performance (2020) and Anne in Directing (2023). Their different practices, shared intuition and love for the absurd form the basis of a collaboration that moves freely between disciplines and formats.

From Zwolle, Studio Vegt works wherever there is space for something unexpected to happen.
